Anime Boston 2018 Convention Recap
Team TokuNet Graphic Designer Gladys attended Anime Boston 2018 from late March to early April at Hynes Convention Center in Massachusetts to meet the tokusatsu community in Boston.
Anime Boston 2018 is an annual 3-days convention that highlights anime culture. It is known not only for the variety of toys, games, but also cosplay activities and gatherings including Cosplay Death Match, masquerade and more. Attendees can search for the merchandises and showcase their cosplays.
On Friday evening, I attended the Tokusatsu Meetup hosted by Derek Flaherty (also known as The Green Ranger). I was excited to see how many tokusatsu fans gathered, with cosplays that ranged from Super Sentai, Power Rangers to Kamen Rider.
I enjoyed the light-hearted atmosphere of the meetup and had the opportunity to chat with new friends. My favorite moment was when some of the cosplayers shouted Kamen Rider’s Fourze’s catchphrase “Uchu Kita” as they jumped up.
Outside the tokusatsu meetup, as I wandered around the convention hall, I managed to spot multiple Power Ranger cosplays which I would love to give wonderful support to.
Last but not least, Saturday afternoon I waited with anticipation for a special guest to return to his booth. I could feel my heart pumping when the voice actor of Ninjaman from Ninja Sentai Kakuranger, Kazuki Yao had made his appearance. Despite the language barrier, I got to interact with him for a short moment and we shared a good laugh.
For a first-timer to a convention in Boston, Anime Boston has worked its magic and brought out a wonderful experience, and we were able to have the chance to broaden our friendships and spread the passion for the Tokusatsu. I look forward to next years convention with high enthusiasm.
