Shinji Higuchi and Shin Godzilla Stop by Tokyo Toy Show
The co-director of the upcoming Godzilla: Resurgence showed up to speak about the new S.H. MonsterArts figure.
The star of the latest Godzilla movie is understandably the next entry in the S.H. MonsterArts toy line. Shinji Higuchi, who is co-directing Godzilla: Resurgence with Hideaki Anno, showed up to last week’s Tokyo Toy Show with Toho Executive Producer Akihiro Yamauchi to show off the new figure and talk about the film.
The new Shin Godzilla MonsterArts will come out this December, and will retail for about $130.00. Pre-orders are opening soon. ShinGoji joins 1989 Godzilla and Godzilla feat. EVA-01 as the latest in the line. Check out all three at Tamashii’s SHMA page.
When asked about the film’s progress, Higuchi responded “It is still being worked on. We are causing trouble to a lot of people but only in order to make something really good.”
Regarding the toy itself:
When I requested Takayuki Takeya (model artist of Shin Godzilla) to do touch ups to the model, the new S. H. MonsterArts was being made in his workshop. It was like a brother to the movie model. I would have lost my mind if it had come out first.
I decided to go for such a long tail partly feeling ‘I’d like to see anyone trying to make this into a product’. They did it, identical to the original. I am very happy to be able to buy a new piece of S. H. MonsterArts (which I have been buying for personal enjoyment) in which I had a hand in creating.
