Tsuburaya Holding Special “Ultraman Day” Anniversary Event
Tsuburaya is throwing a two-day “Ultraman Day” event for the 50th Anniversary.
July 9th 1966 is an officially recognized memorial day in Japan, as it’s the day Ultraman began. To celebrate the 50 years since, Tsuburaya and TBS are holding a two-day celebrity filled event in the Suginami Koukaidou.
The main event of Saturday, July 9th will be “THE ROCK 2016,” a series of performances by artists from throughout Ultra Series history. Artists include Toshihiko Takamizawa (frontman of THE ALFEE), Ichiro Mizuki, Takeshi Tsuruno (Ultraman Dyna), DAIGO (Ultraman Saga), Mamoru Miyano (voice of Ultraman Zero) and Voyager (Ultraman X).
Sunday will be “THE LEGENDS 1966,” and the guests include cast and crew from Ultraman. Susumu Kurobe (Hayata), Hiroko Sakurai (Akiko), Masanari Nihei (Ide), Akihide Tsusawa (Hoshino), Satoshi Furuya (Ultraman‘s suit actor), Toshihiro Iijima (director), and Kazuho Mitsuta (director) will be in attendance.
Kohji Moritsugu, Dan Moroboshi from Ultra Seven, will also be attending, as will Tomokazu Seki and Megumi Han from the Ultraman Zero: Revenge of Belial film, and Kiyotaka Taguchi, head director of Ultraman X and the upcoming Ultraman Orb.
Small merchandise shops will be open all weekend. Fan club tickets are on sale from May 18th to midnight on the 22nd. General tickets go on sale here on May 28th.

By the way, ULTRAMAN premiered on July 17, 1966, not July 9th. July 10th was the public debut of the character on a television special broadcast on TBS the week before the series premiere.
