Godzilla 2 Loses Director
Gareth Edwards exits the sequel to 2014’s Godzilla.
Gareth Edwards, director of Monsters and the upcoming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, directed Godzilla for Legendary and Warner Brothers, and was until now signed on to helm the sequel. Today, he amicably split from the project.
His departure comes hot on the heels of the announcement that Godzilla 2‘s release date is being pushed back from June 8, 2018 to March 22, 2019. Godzilla Vs Kong has also been pushed back to May 20, 2020.
Legendary is currently seeking a new director to handle Godzilla 2, based on a script by Max Borenstein. Their other kaiju-based property, Pacific Rim, is also going through changes. Pacific Rim 2, which will be directed by Daredevil and Spartacus showrunner Steven S. DeKnight, added Jurassic World and Kong: Skull Island writer Derek Connolly.
