First Image of Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa Released

The first promotional photo of the Power Rangers villain was unveiled by People magazine.

Elizabeth Banks, the actress known for her roles in films like The Hunger Games and Pitch Perfect, is playing Rita Repulsa in 2017’s Power Rangers film.

Banks gives an interview in this week’s issue of People where she describes her character as “unpredictable” and “a modern and edgy re-imagining of the original” with “a backstory that connects her to the new Rangers.”

The Power Rangers film is currently being produced by Haim Saban, Brian Cassentini (of Saban Brands), and Allison Shearmur (Cinderella), with a script being written by X-Men: First Class and Thor writers Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz. The film is being directed by The Almanac director, Dean Israelite.

The Power Rangers film premieres March 24, 2017.
