Ultraman Geed, the newest entry in the Ultra Series, announced today it will begin airing on July 8th.
Ultraman Geed will star Tatsuomi Hamada as Riku Asakura. Debuting in 2006, he will be the youngest Ultraman in the series at 16 years old. He previously appeared in the 2010 Ultraman Zero: The Revenge of Belial. Tatsuomi expressed his excitement for his new role, “I used to play Ultraman when I was a preschooler in kindergarten. Now I’m 16 and I’m so glad that I get to play him.”
In the show, Geed will be the son of Ultraman Zero’s ultimate enemy, Ultraman Belial and the story will continue from there onwards. Tatsuomi stated, “The movie I performed in, Belial was the villain, but this time, the setting is he’s my father. I think this will be a role with depth.” He continued, “Let’s watch together to see how Ultraman Geed, who has inherited Belial’s genes, will grow.”
Ultraman Geed will be directed by Koichi Sakamoto (Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger, Kamen Rider Fourze), who directed Ultraman Zero and Belial’s introductory movie, Ultra Galaxy Legends, in 2009. Hirotaka Adachi, Mamoru Oshii’s son in law, credited as Otsuichi, is serving as head writer for the series. This is Otsuichi’s first time writing a TV series, he is primarily known for his children’s mystery novels, including the award-winning GOTH: The List Cut Incident.
