Kong: Skull Island Makes $500 Million Worldwide
Kong: Skull Island, the latest entry in Legendary’s Monsterverse, just grossed half a billion dollars at the box office.
For the month since its strong March 10th opening, Kong: Skull Island has stayed in the top 5 box office earners, keeping up with films like Beauty and the Beast and Get Out. This past weekend, the critically acclaimed film reached the half a billion milestone.
Skull Island opened in 65 markets, and its total worldwide earnings reached $534,354,724 as of April 9th. Legendary Pictures and director Jordan Voght-Roberts made Skull Island with a budget of $185 million. For comparison, Godzilla (2014) made $529,076,069 from a $160 million budget.
The next two entries in the Monsterverse are Godzilla: King of Monsters and Godzilla vs. Kong. Hopefully the series’ upward trend continues and spells good news for future kaiju films.
