BREAKING: Super Sentai Series to Conclude Broadcast with Gozyuger

Kyodo News reports the Super Sentai Series will conclude its broadcast run with TV-Asahi after 50 years.
Kyodo News agency broke news this Thursday morning that the Super Sentai Series, currently celebrating its 50th anniversary, will end its broadcast on TV-Asahi after a half-century nearly continuous run. Reportedly, profits from events, merchandise, and other related sources have not been enough to justify continuing production of the series. Allegedly at this time, No. 1 Sentai Gozyuger, which premiered last February, will be the final entry in the Super Sentai Series.
Kyodo News reports that this information has been obtained from interviews with people involved in the production of the series. The names of those interviewed have not been provided. At the time of writing, TV-Asahi, Toei, Bandai and cast members have not made any statement or announcement on this sudden news.
The Super Sentai Series has been on television since 1975’s Himitsu Sentai Gorenger and its successor, J.A.K.Q. Dengekitai, both of which which were created by the legendary manga artist behind both Kamen Rider (1971) and Cyborg 009, Shotaro Ishinomori. In the entire history of Super Sentai Series productions, there was only one year without a new entry. 1978 was, instead, spent creating Toei’s Spider-Man in partnership with Marvel Comics. After the success of Spider-Man and its giant robot, Leopardon, the giant robot concept was brought to Super Sentai for the first time in 1979’s Battle Fever J.
Since 1979, every year has seen the passing of the torch from one hero team in the franchise to the next, while 1993 saw the first entry in the Power Rangers franchise, a television series which adapts various Super Sentai Series productions for international audiences. In recent years, Hasbro has moved away from Super Sentai and slowed the production of Power Rangers to a halt. Power Rangers Cosmic Fury was the first season to exclusively use new costume designs not made for Super Sentai, and 2024 was the first year with no new Power Rangers episodes since Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers began.
Fan discourse has expressed concerns about product sales for many years, but today’s news is the first time an alleged source has confirmed enough impact to end the series.
In response to today’s news, fans online are expressing skepticism, sadness, and frustration as they mourn the loss. Some are remaining hopeful that Toei will produce a new tokusatsu series to take Super Sentai‘s place. Others are questioning whether the series is truly ending or whether a new hero team show will simply carry a new brand name. However, no information is known at this time other than the alleged ending of a historic tokusatsu series
No. 1 Sentai Gozyuger is currently airing on TV-Asahi every Sunday at 9:30 AM JST with no end date announced. Team TokuNet will provide updates as more information becomes available.

God I hope we get a new toku series to take it’s place (or that is just a hoax/ misunderstanding similar to what happened during Donbrother’s run) it’s so sad this might be happening and even during gozyuger’s airing with it being such a fun season. Regardless, SUPER SENTAI IS FOREVER!!!
