Kikai Sentai Zenkaiger Composer Revealed

Veteran tokusatsu music composer Chuumei Watanabe to compose for Kikai Sentai Zenkaiger.

Chuumei Watanabe will be the musical composer for Kikai Sentai Zenkaiger. At 95 years old, he has composed scores for multiple tokusatsu and anime shows including the first entry in the Super Sentai series, Himitsu Sentai Goranger (1975-1977). During the Kikai Sentai Zenkaiger press announcement on January 15, he gave a video message to the viewers.

Introduction

Greetings. I am the composer, Chuumei Watanabe. After making my start through radio, I started composing for film. I’ve done about 100 pieces now. From there, I worked on Android Kikaider and then Mazinger Z, and now I’ve become something of an action and anime expert which has brought me here today.

The Offer to Work on Zenkaiger

Being interested in Super Sentai, I’ve watched it at times, but then I start to feel, “I would have done this instead!” However, being asked to be in charge of composing [for Zenkaiger] is something I didn’t even dream of, and I’m so incredibly happy and so eager about this. They asked me to make music that feel like there’s nothing happier, and I think I’ll do just that.
