Mashin Sentai Kiramager Team Announced
Toei reveals the newest Super Sentai entry, Mashin Sentai Kiramager, along with information on the motifs and the movie that debuts before the show.
The 44th entry in the Super Sentai Series has been revealed: Mashin Sentai Kiramager. With a motif of jewels and vehicles, they are chosen by the KiramaStones, which transform into sentient vehicle companions known as Mashins. Using these powers, they fight an evil army bent on robbing people of their hope and radiance.
The Rangers include:
The creative warrior, KiramaRed, themed after a fire engine. He comes up with attacks.
The shooting warrior, KiramaYellow, themed after an excavator. He unleashes a variety of gunshots.
The fast warrior, KiramaGreen, themed after a supercar. She specializes in swift attacks.
The cutting warrior, KiramaBlue, themed after a jet. He defeats enemies using sword combat.
The healing warrior, KiramaPink, themed after a helicopter. She excels at healing powers and aikido, a form of martial arts.
Kiramager marks the first time in Sentai that a movie will be released prior to the show’s debut. Titled Mashin Sentai Kiramager: Episode ZERO, the movie premieres in theaters on February 8th, 2020. This is known as the Super Sentai Movie PARTY, as it will be screened alongside Kishiryu Sentai Ryusoulger VS Lupinranger VS Patranger.
The movie features a princess from the land of jewelry and KiramaStones, who comes to Earth in search of people with a “shining spirit” called Kiramental, a source of outstanding charm and talent. She seeks to make them into warriors.
The confirmed staff so far include:
Head writer Naruhisa Arakawa, who has written a handful of episodes for several tokusatsu shows as far back as 1987’s Kamen Rider Black. He was head writer for Kamen Rider Kuuga, Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger, Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger, and most recently wrote the Super Sentai Strongest Battle mini-series from this year.
Director Kyohei Yamaguchi, who has only ever worked with Kamen Rider. Starting in 2010 and mainly directing the Hyper Battle DVDs, he would go on to be involved with some episodes of Kamen Rider Fourze and has since directed a handful of episodes of every series since Kamen Rider Gaim. This will be his first Super Sentai.
TV Asahi producer Chihiro Inoue, who has worked with Sentai in the past. Inoue describes how he owned a Goranger vinyl figure as a child, and how it seemed like a sparkling treasure at that age. The theme that Kiramager may explore, as Inoue puts it, is “What makes a hero? Is it because they dazzle and sparkle, giving us courage and hope? No, it’s not – they only pull out the power that rests in each of us. Heroes illuminate the light, but it’s us that reflect it and shine.”
Toei producer Hideaki Tsukada, who produced several Sentai, as well as a handful of Kamen Rider. The most recent tokusatsu show he was involved in was Kamen Rider Fourze, while the most recent movie was Kamen Rider Heisei Generations FINAL, and GOZEN-Junkoi no Ken-. He remarks about how jewels have always been a point of interest in ancient times, and that this will be Sentai‘s first combination of jewels and vehicles as a motif. He describes Kiramager as a series where the protagonists will bond with the Mashins and jump into adventure at full adrenaline, as the most glimmering Sentai ever.
The show will debut on March 8th, 2020.
