Yu Yu Hakusho Stage Play Features Gekiranger Alum
The stage adaptation of the popular 90’s series Yu Yu Hakusho features former Gekiranger actors.
It was announced this week that as part of the 25th anniversary of its debut, a stage play will debut in late summer of this year based on Yoshihiro Togashi’s popular manga, Yu Yu Hakusho. The primary cast was announced and can be seen below:
- Tsubasa Sakiyama as Yusuke Urameshi
- Naoya Gomoto as Kazuma Kuwabara
- Shohei Hashimoto as Hiei
- Hiroki Suzuki as Kurama
- Yuka Hirata as Botan
- Hirofumi Araki as Koenma
- Elizabeth Marie as Genkai
- Mirai as Keiko Yukimura
- Kenta Nitta as Goki
- Mio Kadoshima as Atsuko Urameshi
The manga was previously adapted into an anime that debuted in 1992 and then was broadcast with an English dub by Funimation on Cartoon Network’s Toonami block in the early 2000’s. The plot of the stage play will reflect the early parts of the manga, and revolves around high school student Yusuke Urameshi as he becomes a ‘spirit detective’ and battles demons Hiei, Kurama and Goki with the help of rival Kuwabara.
The stage play will see Hirata and Araki teaming up again as they did in 2007’s Juken Sentai Gekiranger as the series antagonists Rio and Mele. Suzuki had previously been seen as the AU version of Kamen Rider Blade in 2009’s Kamen Rider Decade.
The show will begin touring in Tokyo on August 28 through September second at Theater 1010. From there the show will move to Osaka from September 4 through September 8 at Morinomiya Piloti Hall, then on to Fukuoka from September 10 to September 12 at Momochi Palace, and then finally Aichi from September 20 to September 22 at Ichinomiya City Hall.
