Fellow Rangers Mourn the Passing of Ninja Storm’s Pua Magasiva

Over the weekend, Pua Magasiva of Power Rangers fame was found dead at age 38.

On Saturday morning, police were called to investigate a sudden death in Wellington, New Zealand. There, Power Rangers Ninja Storm star Pua Magasiva, (Shane Clark/Red Wind Ranger) age 38, was found dead. His brother flew to New Zealand to be with his family, including Lizz Sadler, Magasiva’s widow.

Pua Magasiva had a daughter from his first marriage, and Sadler also had a daughter from her previous relationship. The two met on Instagram and married 18 months later in April of 2018, making last month their one-year wedding anniversary. The two celebrated together in Bali.

Magasiva’s got his start on Shortland Street in 1994, playing Elvis Iosefa. He would reprise this role in 1999 and return to the show from 2003-2006 and from 2011-2018 to play Nurse Vinnie Kruse. Last year, he left his co-host position on the Flava’s breakfast show, Flava being a radio station owned by NZME. However, many tokusatsu fans will remember him best for his role on Power Rangers Ninja Storm.

The Internet gave an outpouring of support for his friends and family both from fans and from colleagues throughout Power Rangers history.

Magasiva’s co-star, Glenn McMillan, (Dustin Brooks/Yellow Wind Ranger) shared some behind-the-scenes memories in Magasiva’s honor.

Adam Tuominen (Hunter Bradley/Crimson Thunder Ranger) tells us what his co-star was like off-camera.

Jason Chan (Cam Watanabe/Green Samurai Ranger) shares more photos and a fond memory from filming that speaks to Pua’s character.

Douglas Sloan was an Executive Producer on Ninja Storm. Other Power Ranger actors have spoken out on this tragic loss as well.

Yoshi Sudarso (Koda/Dino Charge Blue Ranger) joins the others in mourning with his heartfelt tweet.

Nic Sampson (Chip Thorn/Yellow Mystic Ranger) shares more kind words about Magasiva.

Jason David Frank played Tommy Oliver as the Black Dino Ranger alongside Magasiva in the Power Rangers Dino Thunder and Power Rangers Ninja Storm crossover special, Thunder Storm. In honor of their work together, he shared both teams’ shared morph sequence.

Jason Faunt (Wesley Collins/Red Time Force Ranger) reminds fans that all Power Rangers actors are a big family, having all shared the experience of being rangers. He offers some advice as well.

Unfortunately, a South Pacific Pictures spokeswoman said she could not make any further comment beyond confirming Magasiva’s death. NZME chief executive Michael Boggs said:

“It is with deep sadness that the NZME family has today been told of the sudden death of Pua Magasiva. At this incredibly difficult time our thoughts, prayers and condolences go to Pua’s family, friends and his many colleagues. For us at NZME, Pua was a loved member of our radio team at Flava. We’ve been in touch with Pua’s former work mates and are offering them support”.
