“REIGO” And “REIGA” Kaiju Films To Be Distributed in North America
“REIGO” and “RAIGA” kaiju films are set for a North American release by SRS Cinema.
SRS Cinema announced their acquisition of the kaiju film REIGO: THE Deep Sea Monsters vs The Battleship Yamato, as well as it’s follow-up sequel, RAIGA: The Monster From The Deep Sea, for future release and distribution in North America.
REIGO (2005) is set in World War II. The movie depicts the battle between a Japanese military submarine (based after the real-life submarine, the Yamato) and a giant kaiju from the sea named “Reigo” in a life-or-death battle of survival. RAIGA (2009) takes place 60 years after the first movie. In this sequel, another kaiju has risen from the depths of the ocean and launches a new attack on present-day Japan.
Both films are written by director and producer Shinpei Hayashiya (Gamera 4: Shinjjitsu, Rakugo Monogatari), and feature veteran tokusatsu actors such as Susumu Kurobe (Shin Hayata/Ultraman) and Taiyo Sugiura (Musashi Haruno/Ultraman Cosmos) of the Ultra franchise.
While no official release date has been announced, SRS Cinema plans to release REIGO in winter of 2019 on DVD, while RAIGA may come out around the summer of 2020.
