Saban Brands Names Sanrio’s Janet Hsu As New CEO
After the departure of Elie Dekel as President of Saban Brands, the company has found their new president and first ever CEO with Janet Hsu.
Janet Hsu is known for being the president and chief operating officer of Sanrio, the company behind the popular Hello Kitty franchise. Starting August 17th, Hsu will be departing Sanrio to become the new president of Saban Brands. The previous president of the company, Elie Dekel, recently stepped down to pursue other opportunities.
Hsu had been promoted to president of Sanrio in March, 2012. Under her leadership, the brand soare in expansion and diversification in the retail world. Sanrio recently celebrated their 40th anniversary of the Hello Kitty franchise last year in 2014.
Adam Chesnoff, president and chief operating officer of Saban Capitol Group, the parent company to Saban Brands, had this to say about Hsu:
“Janet is a visionary leader with a strong track record for driving global business expansion and leading innovative strategies. Janet has been responsible for some of the world’s largest and most successful brands. Her extensive and diverse background across licensing, merchandising and retail has led to many major accomplishments. We look forward to working closely with her at Saban Brands to continue to grow the company and its expanding portfolio of brands.”
Hsu will also become the first CEO of Saban Brands, a role the company previously hadn’t had. As CEO, Hsu will be responsible for overseeing the brand’s expansive portfolio of properties, acquiring new brands, and building new IPs for Saban Brands.
