Episodes of Toei’s Spider-Man Return To Marvel.com

Marvel.com announced today that two select episodes of the Japanese Spider-Man TV series will be hosted on their site.

Episodes 1 and 7 of the series are being featured in light of the character’s recent (and highly-anticipated) appearance in Amazing Spider-Man, Issue 12 as part of the Spider-Verse crossover event. Marvel.com had previously hosted the entire series completely subtitled in English in 2009, but took the episodes offline following the website’s renewal for unknown reasons.

Released in 1978, Toei’s Spider-Man TV series is a radical departure from its source material. Instead of Peter Parker, Spider-Man’s alter-ego is Takuya Yamashiro, played by Shinji Todo (Nicholas Gordon in Space Sheriff Next Generation and Gozo Kirihara in Choujinki Metalder).

After being saved by the last survivor of Planet Spider, Takuya uses his new-found spider powers and arsenal to face the Iron Cross Empire and avenge his father’s death. The series is mainly infamous for Spider-Man’s use of a flying car, and a spaceship, Marveller, which transformed into the giant robot Leopardon.

As of this writing, there is no further word on whether or not Marvel.com will put up the remaining episodes. Issue 12 of Amazing Spider-Man is currently available from Marvel Comics.

That would be somewhat of an apology for jobbing Leopardon to Morlun.
