“In This Corner of the World” to Star Shinkenger’s Tori Matsuzaka

Samurai Sentai Shinkenger’s Tori Matsuzaka has been confirmed to play the main character’s husband in upcoming live-action TV drama, In This Corner of the World.


In This Corner of the World is an upcoming live-action TV drama based on a manga of the same name. The story was previously adapted for a 2011 TV drama and a 2016 animated film. The story follows Suzu Urano/Hojo (Honoka Matsumoto) and her husband, Shusaku Hojo (Tori Matsuzaka, Takeru Shiba/Shinken Red), in World War II-era Japan. The story takes place in Hiroshima City and Kure City.

Matsumoto was chosen for her role from a pool of three thousand other actresses to portray Suzu alongside Matsuzaka as Shusaku. Other cast members will include Sayu Kubota (Sumi Urano), Machiki Ono (Keiko Kuromura), Tomoro Taguchi (Entaro Hojo), and Ran Ito (San Hojo). Sairi Ito (Sahiko Kariya) and Kaho Tsuchimura (Shino Domoto) will be playing two new characters who are exclusive to the show.

Joe Hisaishi, known for composing music in films by Hayao Miyazaki, will be scoring In This Corner of the World. The show will be filming from early May to early September in Tokyo, Hiroshima and Okayama. Audiences will be able to see the latest adaptation of In This Corner of the World when Nihon TV begins airing it in July 2018.
