Kamen Rider W’s Masaki Suda Set to Return for Live-Action Gintama Film Sequel

Actor of Kamen Rider W fame confirmed to return for upcoming live-action Gintama film sequel alongside Kanna Hashimoto.

On April 16th, the official website for the upcoming live-action film adaptation sequel of Hideaki Sorachi’s Gintama manga announced that actor Masaki Suda (Philip from Kamen Rider W) and actress Kanna Hashimoto (Kokomi Teruhashi from The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.) will be reprising their roles as Shinpachi Shimura and Kagura respectively.

On the official Twitter account for the Gintama film Shun Oguri (Haruhiko Uchiyama (Uchi) from Gokusen), the actor of the protagonist Gintoki Sakata, commented: “From the beginning, Fukuda-san has told me that he wanted to make more than one film. Thankfully, the first film was watched by so many people, and I’m happy to be able to continue.”

Along with Oguri, Suda made a comment:

“Because we were already talking about making a sequel during the filming of the first one, we have

naturally planned ahead. While people often talk about a possibility of a sequel to many other films,

it is very rare to see it really happen, so I’m very happy about this.”

As well as Hashimoto:

“I strongly felt that the hurdles of comedy had been raised so high in the sequel, so I practiced my

expressions for various scenes a lot before the filming. I was able to perform congenially with big

smiles in the scenes of the three members of Yorozuya, saying ‘It’s so fun!.'”

The Gintama sequel wrapped filming on April 7th and will open in Japan on August 17th, 2018. It currently has the tentative title of Gintama 2.

The first film opened last July and made 980 million yen in the first four days it was in theaters. The film also received a limited release in the United States thanks to Azoland Pictures, as previously reported.
