This Week in Tokusatsu Fashion [1/21/2018 – 1/28/2018]

This week in tokusatsu fashion, Ultraman tote bags, Super Hero Festival shirts, and a new keyboard buddy are among the many items newly listed for sale.

From Tsuburaya’s online store comes a line of Ultraman tote bags. There are some designed to look like various Ultraman’s suits, while others are themed after the agencies that support them. The three deco bags, each designed to look like a different Ultraman chest design, are vinyl with clear pockets so the bags can also act as Ita bags, holding Ultraman figures.  At approximately 13.4 inches wide by 14.2 inches tall and 4 inches deep, these bags are pretty roomy.  Each retails for 3685¥ on the Tsuburaya online store.

Two of the bags available are double-duty, as they have handles to use as a tote bag and also straps to use as a backpack. One design is navy blue with a Science Special Search Party design, while the other is dark grey with an Ultra Guard Terrestrial Defense Force design. Both bags are approximately 17.3 inches tall, 11.8 inches wide and 5.5 inches deep. Each retails for 3900¥. There are also two regular tote bags, a tan Science Special Search Party one and a red Ultra Guard Terrestrial Defense Force. Both bags retail for 1800¥ and are approximately 15.7 inches tall, 18.9 inches wide and 5.9 inches deep, with the design on one side of the bag. Lastly, there is a camo Ultraman design, a more subtle nod to the giant hero. A bit smaller at approximately 13 inches tall, 9.44 inches wide and just under 4 inches deep, the bag is tan with a camo fabric on the bottom and along the straps and includes a small patch with Ultraman and SSSP designs. It retails for 4900¥.

As we approach the new season of Super Sentai, there are new items for the upcoming teams as well as the usual stage show t-shirts and hoodies for both Sentai and Kamen Rider. The Super Hero Festival designs are black with red for Sentai and blue for Kamen Rider, focusing on Uchuu Sentai Kyuranger (Space Sentai Kyuranger) and Kamen Rider Build. The hoodies retail for 6372¥ and the shirts retail for 3500¥, and are all releasing in February 2018.

For the upcoming Kaitou Sentai Lupinranger VS Keisatsu Sentai Patranger (Phantom Thief Lupinranger VS Police Sentai Patranger), there are t-shirts for each new Ranger with their team name and the symbol from their helmet on a black shirt for the Lupinrangers or a white shirt for the Patrangers. The shirts are all 3240¥ and releasing in March 2018.  There are also tote bags, featuring an all-over pattern of chibi Rangers on them, again on black for the Lupinrangers and white for the Patrangers. The larger tote bag, a roomy 14.7 inches tall by 15 inches wide and 4.3 inches deep, retails for 4320¥ while the smaller tote bag, at 7.9 inches tall by 13.8 inches wide and just under 6 inches deep, retails for 3240¥. Both are March 2018 release.

On the Kamen Rider side, Misora’s bracelet is getting a re-release. It will be out in March 2018 and retails for 10,800¥. Also from Kamen Rider Build, there are dog tags being released in March 2018, a total of five different designs. One is for Kamen Rider Grease, and the others are for the trio of Hard Smash that work with him, with the last tag for a character who has yet to show up in the series as of this writing.  In honor of the first Kamen Rider, there is a limited edition teddy bear, in collaboration with noted German teddy bear maker Steiff. The bear sits approximately 11 inches tall, wears a Kamen Rider suit design hoodie, and has “Masked Rider 1” embroidered on the bottom of his left foot. Limited to only 1500 bears, the bear retails for 43,200¥ and is releasing in March 2018.

Premium Bandai is also adding another keyboard buddy to their line-up. This one is the Kamen Rider Den-O Imagin Urataros. Reservations open on January 30th for the plushie keyboard wrist rest, for a May 2018 release. No price is listed but it will likely be 6264¥ like the Momotaros and Faiz keyboard buddies that were previously released.

Finally, a small lineup of Mazinger Z items is available on Premium Bandai. First up is a .925 silver ring, which can connect to a necklace which docks into the head part of the ring. The ring sells for 16,200¥ and is a March 2018 release. The necklace is 12,960¥ and also a March release. There are also several different wallets and cases, ranging in price from 6480¥ to 17280¥, all for June 2018 release.
