Morphinominal Expo 2017 Convention Recap

Earlier this month, fans of Power Rangers in South Texas were treated to the inaugural run of Morphinominal Expo, held at the Wonderland of the Americas Mall in San Antonio.

Running two days, the event promised two days of panels and Q&A sessions with several stars of the franchise, all with no admission being charged as well as free parking.

Many toy collectors were on hand as well as fans of all ages to see former Rangers such as Reggie Rolle (Power Rangers Lost Galaxy), Justin Nimo (Power Rangers in Space), Michael Copon (Power Rangers Time Force), and Andrew Gray (Power Rangers Megaforce/Super Megaforce), who was enjoying his first time in the Lone Star State. Gray was pleasantly surprised to meet so many younger children who were fans, given that his tenure as a Red Ranger ended 3 years ago.

Despite the event taking place during a gas shortage in the city, as well as happening the same weekend as San Japan, San Antonio’s yearly anime convention just minutes away downtown, the event was well received by Power Rangers enthusiasts. Volunteer Yvonne Cortinas was not worried, as she spoke highly of this event catering to a different enough audience.

Some events had to be rescheduled or outright cancelled due to the ramifications of Hurricane Harvey preventing some panelists and cosplay guests from making the event. Attendees were very much in high spirits as some of their favorite Rangers took selfies for their respective Instagram accounts, signed memorabilia, and chatted with other fans from around the area.

Former Pink Ranger, Catherine Sutherland, was glad that so many new fans are coming to the series via Netflix; while former Yellow Ranger, Nakia Burise, was very moved by events such as this one and Power Morphicon, where she has been touch by fans relating just how much the franchise has impacted their lives.

Currently there are no solid plans for a second run at the event, but the staff is currently in talks to see if they can host another one sometime next year.
