City Shrouded in Shadow Game Announces Various Tokusatsu Character Additions

City Shrouded in Shadow

The PS4 game City Shrouded in Shadow recently announced the inclusion of Gamera and the Evangelion Unit-01 alongside various other tokusatsu characters.

Granzella Inc.’s PS4 game City Shrouded in Shadow has recently announced new information after a long period of silence through the use of this week’s issue of Kadokawa’s Weekly Famitsu magazine. The announcement revealed the addition of Gamera from the Gamera tokusatsu film franchise. In addition to this inclusion, was the announcement of the addition of the Evangelion Unit-01 (Eva-01) from the Neon Genesis Evangelion franchise, and an announcement for a Fall launch of the game. Furthermore, the magazine revealed that Gamera and the Eva-01 will appear as “giant shadows” in the game.

City Shrouded in Shadow is a collaboration game between Granzella Inc. and Bandai Namco Entertainment that is inspired by the Disaster Report franchise. It takes place in a city called Ichi City, where the peaceful everyday life gets destroyed by a giant shadow that appears over the city. The objective of the protagonist is simply to survive. This game will give you the option of choosing a male protagonist named Ken Misaki (voiced by Takya Satou) or a female protagonist named Miharu Matsuhara (voiced by Satomi Akesaka). Not only do you have the option of choosing one of two protagonists, their names, occupations, attire, and hairstyles can also be changed. City Shrouded in Shadow will have you making a myriad of Granzella-esque and Kazuma Kujo-styled choices, ultimately having you choosing if the heroine Yuki Kouno (voiced by Reina Ueda) will be your “lover” or your “friend”, and how she views you as a person.

Further information revealed that the franchises depicted in this game will not be used in a crossover format, rather they will be each be divided by stages to depict unique experiences and situations. Two other characters were revealed being Hideyasukuni Otsuka (voiced by Ryota Takeuchi) and Risa Kashiwagi (voiced by Yuuko Kaida). Most importantly, Ultraman, Nise Ultraman, Alien Zarab, Godzilla, King Ghidorah, the Fourth Angel (from Neon Genesis Evangelion), and Soldier Legion are set to appear in the game. The magazine also teased a “highly mobile giant shadow” from a fifth franchise that is accompanied by gunshots and sparks that cut through the darkness.

Lastly, Granzella’s Kazuma Kujo (producer of Disaster Report) and Bandai Namco’s Kensuke Tsukanaka shared the following words in the Famitsu magazine interview:

  • You might remember seeing people run by the mass from giant monsters (kaiju) in anime and tokusatsu when you were a kid. The game started out with the idea of what if you were one of those guys running away.

  • The game will have the Kazuma Kujo-style characteristic of having many choices.

  • Depending on what kind of choices you make, the heroine might even end up thinking you’re a horrible person.

  • You won’t get to see stuff like Ultraman vs. Nise Ultraman settle their fight. You are just a regular human, after all, so that means you’ll mostly focus on surviving.

  • Crossovers won’t happen for each work in the game. You’ll get to experience different situations one stage at a time.

  • The focus is currently on finishing the game, so there aren’t any plans for DLC at the moment. However, Bandai Namco and Granzella are still considering it.

  • Development is currently 75% complete.
