Shinji Higuchi, Kiyotaka Taguchi and More Coming to G-FEST XXIV

This year’s lineup for annual the G-FEST convention includes directors, composers, illustrators, and suit actors.


G-FEST XXIV is the latest iteration of Chicago’s annual kaiju convention and they’ve got an impressive list of guests lined up heading into the summer. The special guests include Michiru Oshima, Yuji Kaida, Shinji Higuchi, Ryuki Kitaoka, Kazuhiro Nakagawa, and Kiyotaka Taguchi.

Michiru Oshima is the composer for the Millennium-era films Godzilla vs. MegaguirusGodzilla Against Mechagodzilla, and Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S. G-FEST will be presenting her with their “coveted Mangled Skyscraper Award for her contributions to the kaiju eiga genre.”

Shinji Higuchi is a prolific director whose work can be found in the Heisei Gamera trilogy and Shin Godzilla. He will be joined at G-FEST by his assistant director on Attack on Titan and Shin Godzilla, Kazuhiro Nakagawa.

Kiyotaka Taguchi is the head director of the last two Ultraman shows, Ultraman X and Ultraman Orb, and was the assistant special effects director on many Millennium Godzilla films.

Ryuki Kitaoka is a suit actor who starred in Ultraman TigaDynaGaia, and Cosmos.

Yuji Kaida is an illustrator known for his work in both the kaiju and mecha genres. One of his more recent works was a part of the “Godzilla vs. Evangelion” project.

G-FEST XXIV will take place from July 14th to 16th. Registration is currently open.
