Cosplayer Feature: Rettan

Rettan is a Japanese cosplayer from the Kanto region known for his civilian tokusatsu cosplays on Twitter.

What got you interested into cosplay?

The cosplays I personally like to make usually turn out to be the characters I love. Especially tokusatsu heroes. I love it when people take photos my characters.

When and how did you discover tokusatsu?

The very first tokusatsu series I can recall is Ninpu Sentai Hurricanger for Sentai and Kamen Rider Faiz for Rider. I began watching more after that.

If you could cosplay any character, who would it be?

Right now, I want to cosplay Kyuranger’s Shishi Red, Lucky!

What is your favorite tokusatsu series and why?

My favorite tokusatsu series is Faiz! I want to at least cosplay the hero Takumi Inui. He is my very first Rider series, so I have very fond memories of it. I think his transformation belt and motorcycle are so cool!

What’s the funniest experience you’ve had while cosplaying?

There was this one time when I left my transformation belt at home while I cosplaying one of my Kamen Rider characters.  I had to go to a nearby toy shop to buy one on my way to the event.

What advice would you give to yourself when you first started?

If I were to give advice to myself when I first began cosplaying, I’d say to focus on having great makeup to look more like the characters.

Where can we find your work?

I often go to cosplay events in the Kanto region and I can be found on Twitter.

Do you have any cosplays you’re currently working on that you’d like to share?

I’m currently planning on making Kyuranger’s Shishi Red/Lucky though I haven’t started yet.

Editor-in-Chief obsessed with karate bugmen, spandex heroes, & giant men of light.
