Mamoru Oshii’s Sand Whale and Me to Air Premieres March 18th on Toonami

The five part live-action miniseries will be part of the block’s 20th anniversary.


Sand Whale and Me follows a character who has been stranded on an alien world, with her only means of survival being the titular sand whales found on the planet. The series is directed by Ghost in the Shell director Mamoru Oshii.

The five part miniseries will air five minute episodes and is part of Toonami’s 20th anniversary celebration. Toonami describes the story as:

Presented in a hybrid live action/CG style, “Sand Whale and Me” is the story of a female paratrooper in the distant future who is stranded in a vast desert. With limited supply of food and water, her only hope is to catch a Sand Whale from a pack. If she can’t, her life may just hang in the balance.

Sand Whale and Me premieres March 18th at 12:00 a.m. on Toonami.
