Shin Godzilla Coming to U.S. Theaters

Shin Godzilla is coming to select United States theaters for one week this October.

Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi’s Shin Godzilla has been breaking records in Japan, and U.S. audiences will now get their chance to experience it in theaters thanks to Funimation Films. Funi announced that they had acquired the film’s distribution rights back in July, but now fans know exactly when they can see the film.

Ticket-selling service Fandango recently added Shin Godzilla to their listings for the week of October 11-18, 2016. To see if the film is playing near you, enter your ZIP code here, or visit Astounding Beyond Belief on Tumblr. They’ve made a list of which theaters across the U.S. will show the film, which you can see here.

The film’s American poster is notable for using the film’s original title as opposed to the previously announced Godzilla: Resurgence, and for its new English tagline: “A god incarnate. A city doomed.”

9/2/2016 UPDATE: Funimation launched the film’s official English site at funimationfilms.com/shingodzilla. Tickets will be available through this site beginning September 9th. Funimation will also be hosting two premieres for the film ahead of its theatrical run, one in Los Angeles on October 3rd, and the other in New York on October 5th.

The official site includes the film’s synopsis, which reads:

“It’s a peaceful day in Japan when a strange fountain of water erupts in the bay, causing panic to spread among government officials. At first, they suspect only volcanic activity, but one young executive dares to wonder if it may be something different… something alive. His worst nightmare comes to life when a massive, gilled monster emerges from the deep and begins tearing through the city, leaving nothing but destruction in its wake. As the government scrambles to save the citizens, a rag-tag team of volunteers cuts through a web of red tape to uncover the monster’s weakness and its mysterious ties to a foreign superpower. But time is not on their side—the greatest catastrophe to ever befall the world is about to evolve right before their very eyes.”
