Shin Godzilla Becomes Highest Grossing Japanese Godzilla Film
The Secret Life of Pets unseats the latest Godzilla at the top of the box office.
Shin Godzilla, the first original Japanese Godzilla film in over 10 years, fell to 2nd place during its 3rd weekend at the Japanese box office. The movie has now earned $31,170,000 at the Japanese box office, surpassing Legendary Pictures’ 2014 Godzilla film in Japan.
In addition, Shin Godzilla has now surpassed Godzilla 2000’s $27 million worldwide take to become the highest grossing Japanese Godzilla film. TOHO projects the movie will earn around $39 million during its domestic run.
The Kamen Rider/Super Sentai double bill The double bill Kamen Rider Ghost the Movie: The 100 Eyecons and Ghost’s Fateful Moment andDobutsu Sentai Zyuohger the Movie: The Heart Pounding Circus Panic fell from 4th to 8th during its second weekend.
Funimation also announced that Shin Godzilla, also known as Godzilla: Resurgence, will be released in US theaters later this year.
