John Boyega Will Star in Upcoming “Pacific Rim 2” Film

John-Boyega-StarWars

Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Attack the Block star, John Boyega, is set to lead the upcoming sequel to Guillermo Del Toro and Travis Beacham’s kaiju film, Pacific Rim.

According to Deadline Hollywood, Boyega is set to play the son of Stacker Pentecost, played by Idris Elba.

Boyega’s production company UpperRoom Productions, co-founded with agent Femi Oguns, will also co-produce the sequel alongside Legendary Films. Boyega noted in a Facebook post:

For me, this collaboration couldn’t be a better way to get UpperRoom started. It brings an invigorating feeling to know that I get to participate in the telling of a remarkable story from more than one angle. Big love to all X

Guillermo Del Toro seemed to tease the big news the previous night with the following tweet:

Pacific Rim 2 will be directed by Steven S. DeKnight and set to start production later on this year. Del Toro is still attached to film as a producer.

Del Toro praised Boyega, noting:

I am very proud and happy to welcome John into a fantastic sandbox. The Pacific Rim universe will be reinforced with him as a leading man as it continues to be a multicultural, multi-layered world. ‘The World saving the world’ was our goal and I couldn’t think of a better man for the job.

For fans looking to immerse themselves even further into the world of Pacific Rim, there are two available graphic novels set as prequels to the first film: Pacific Rim: Tales From Year Zero and Pacific Rim: Tales From The Drift.
