Sion Sono’s Kaiju Film, Love & Peace, to be Released This Summer

Famed director Sion Sono is set to release his own brand of Kaiju film with Love & Peace.

With a staggering number of five films expected to come out in 2015, very few expected that one of his films would feature a giant monster. Love & Peace centers around Ryōichi Suzuki, a failed rock musician coasting through life as a salaryman until he befriends a small turtle. Hijinks ensue.

The movie stars Hiroki Hasegawa as Ryōichi and Kumiko Asō as Yuko. A few voice actors will be lending their talents to the film, such as Ikue Ohtani (Pikachu from Pokémon), Inuko Inuyama (Meowth from Pokémon), Shoko Nakagawa (Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann theme song, Saori Kido/Athena from Saint Seiya Omega) and  Gen Hoshino (Buddha from Saint Young Men).

Special effects director Kiyotaka Taguchi, known for his directorial work on G, the short film Gehara and various episodes of Neo Ultra Q and Ultraman Ginga S, will be supervising the special effects for the film. The promotional artwork shown above was done by illustrator Akihiro Yamada.

Love & Peace is set to release in Japan on June 27, 2015.
